Final Evaluation

  • How has the development of your project been influenced by your research on working practices for your chosen profession?

The research that I gathered at the beginning of the project (Here) helped me greatly throughout the creation process of this project as there were times that i did not know what to add to my game or how to continue on my track, and whenever I ran into these projects i took a look at some of the research that i have and took some of the ideas of the different tracks that i found changed them a little bit and added them to my project. I also conducted some programming research and used a lot of these tutorials to help me when i was creating some of the blueprints that i needed for my game to work as i have never made a game that had a vehicle in it never mind a game that was based around one. I also tested out and watched some videos on the Wipe-out omega game that I looked at so that I could get some more ideas on how the environment should look, however not all of the game play was useful because the vehicles in this game are all hovering and my vehicle was a wheeled one. Here are some links to the gameplay that I watched :

  • Has the development of your project been affected by your research into historical and contemporary influences for your chosen profession?

My historical research that i conducted in my critical report (Here) at the beginning of the project helped to remind me and to teach me some of the influences of my chosen profession (Programming) although i do not believe the it has directly affected my project because none of the historical games that I researched had anything to do with vehicles although some of the research has helped me with the presentation of my project as i believe the presentation of some of the games i researched were very good especially due to the lack of technology they had. However if my game had been an arcade styled game i believe that my historical research would have helped a lot as a lot of the games were creditably popular and still are, this would have helped me to create a more enticing arcade game.

  • Reflect on your learning and skills – What you have done and why you have done it?

I have developed my skills tremendously throughout the last few of my projects however i do not believe that I showed many of these skills in this project as i had to cut a few corners and removed mechanics due to my poor time management skills. For example i have used the base UE4 vehicle movement for the car that the player is using and have changed some of the settings to make it suit my game, throughout the project i have realized that doing this has shown an incredible lack of skill and I am very unhappy that i did this and will not be doing things like this in the future for any of my projects. Another example of this was to AI that i was supposed to add to the game and did not have enough time to flush out and decided to scrap the idea to try and catch up on some of the work that i had missed.

  • What do you feel has worked well and what did not work well? What could you do to improve your work?

I feel as though not a lot of the aspects of the project that i have made did not work too well this time and the majority of this happened due to my poor attempt of time management although for this report i believe that the controller functionality and lighting of this project went well due to the simplicity of them. One of the main things that i do not think went well at all is the blueprint for the car as i have used the UE4’s base blueprint for the vehicle and the car has suffered because of this and now presents a lack of skill on my behalf therefore i will not be using any of the preset blueprint in UE4 as if I am going to pursue a career in programming this would be a terrible idea and would ruin my career, I also believe that the now nonexistent AI went terribly as this was my first attempt of creating AI and it did not go well so it was removed from the project.

  • Reflect on peer and tutor feedback.

My tutors comments have helped me a great deal this year and have taught me how to better express my work on my blog so that i am able to get better than a bear minimum pass. However i have still referred on a few of my tasks because of my terrible time management skills and have fallen behind. Below are some screenshots of the tutor feedback sheets that I have been given:

This section of the feedback sheet helps me to quickly understand where the main section of the tasks are and what ones need some more work or are completed. Each task is split into two sections that i need to complete once all of these section are complete i will have finished my project and can move onto my next one. Here i can see that i have completed the criteria 1.1 and 1.2 and have referred 21.-3.2.

tutor 1

This sections of the feedback goes into more detail about what I have done and what i need to add to each section of my blog to be able to complete the task. From this i can see that my task 1 was completed to a satisfactory level although it lacked detail, I can also see to improve my mark i would have to improve my critical reflection skills and produce a broader range of research. I an also see that i completed Task 2 to a good level and i have also been told what i can add to improve this. I can also see that I have referred on some of the points for Task 4 and have been told what i am missing.

Tutor 2

Here is the continued page of the tutor comments on my feedback sheet. Here i can see that i have referred on all of my Task 5 and have been told some of the point that i need to improve and what is missing from the blog, I also  have been given a action plan on how i could improve my work in the future. I can also see that my task 6 (This) has not been completed yet and i am currently completing this. I have also been given an action plan that i need to work on to complete my blog and pass the task.

Here are all of my peer reviews for my Unit 12 interim’s. These peer reviews have helped me a lot this unit because some of the interims i did not know what else to add to increase the mark that i got, However some of these reviews were irrelevant because i had not started a large amount of the work that was reviewed so the comments couldn’t help me improve what had not been started because i was behind.

Here is the first peer review i got for this unit it was done by my classmate Samuel Banks. He has marked me as a satisfactory pass for my critical report and a good pass for my bibliography. He has also commented some advice and ideas on how i could improve the work that he has reviewed to which i have made a student action plan to do these things.

12 peer 1

Here is my second peer review for my Unit 12. This review was done by Samuel banks who is one of my classmates. I have been given a satisfactory pass for all of my tasks 2.1 – 4.2, I have also been given some feedback on what i could do to improve my work and what i have done well this interim. After reviewing the review I proceeded to create an action plan to which i can follow to improve my quality of work.

  • What have you learnt during this project?

I have learnt a great deal about UE4 and some substance designer this year as I have had to learn a lot about how to create vehicles and how to tune them in UE4 as i have never attempted creating vehicles in UE4 before and needed to practice a little more before i attempt to create a game about it in the future as the attempt in this project did not go too well. I have also developed some skills in substance designer because I decided to create my own textures for he track that the player drives on in this game. I have also learnt some more mental skills that will be incredibly useful for the future the main one of these skills is i have learnt some more time management tactics that will help me to stay on track with the future projects that I am going to complete.
